Head teacher Matt Lawrence said: "When the collapse took place, it made us realise the importance of having our own defibrillator on site that could be accessed by our local community in an emergency. This was then fitted free of charge by local electricity firm Power and Control, based in Alfreton Road. The school decided to secure funding for a defibrillator from the Department for Education. As a result, a defibrillator has been fitted at Breadsall Hilltop Primary School and pupils in year six are learning important life-saving skills. After the sibling of a pupil at a Derby school collapsed while collecting them at the end of the day, it made staff realise that having both a defibrillator and first aid training for staff and pupils was essential.
